Launch of the Reclaiming Slow Nordic ECEC Network

The first Nordic network meeting on slow pedagogy in Drammen, Norway, offered rich reflections on time, presence, and educational practice.

The meeting took place at USN's campus Drammen on the 25th - 26th of September.

The conversations were structured around four key ideas:

  • being with
  • diving deep
  • going off track
  • taking the longer view.

Strong emphasis was placed on relational presence, care, and embodied ways of knowing. Through shared dialogue, sensory activities, and brief guided pauses, habitual assumptions about efficiency and time pressure in education were gently challenged.

Rather than positioning time as something to manage or optimise, the group explored timefulness—the creation of meaningful, immersive pockets of experience through play, aesthetics, and deep listening. Such approaches open space for imagination, agency, and memory, both for children and educators.

The meeting itself functioned as a lived example of slow pedagogy in action: relational, reflective, and grounded in practice. With participants from across the Nordic countries, the network continues to foster international collaboration and advocate for educational cultures that prioritise presence, depth, and sustainability over speed.
