Hilde Eide er professor i klinisk kommunikasjon og helseveiledning og forskningsleder ved Vitensenteret helse og Teknologi i Drammen. Hun har bred forskningserfaring på flere områder; a) Personorientert kommunikasjon, b) Hvordan velferdsteknologi og digital helse (ehelse) og avstandsoppfølging kan forbedre pasientbehandling og helsetjenester og c) Hva som er beste praksis innen innovasjon og implementering av nye tjenester. Hun er en av forfatterne av boken "Kommunikasjon i relasjoner – Personorientering, samhandling,etikk" som har vært brukt i helsearbeider-utdanning i Skandinavia siden 1996, og en av redaktørene for boken "Person-Centered Health Care Research ". Hun har siden 2010 forsket på avstandsoppfølging av personer med sammensatte helseutfordringer. Starten på dette tok utgangspunkt i hvordan mennesker med kroniske smerter kommuniserer med helsepersonell og hva som er utfordringer for dem. Deretter ble det utviklet en avstandsbasert intervensjon gitt via smarttelefon til oppfølging hjemme etter et rehabiliteringsopphold.
